In this week’s reading, Kraut talked about the negative effects of different media technologies. We have found that with the development of technology, it has brought many negative effects to society. In his reading, Kraut also pointed out that the advent of television has had an impact on social interaction and sports activities, and he has reduced people’s contact. At the same time, although the Internet is more social than TV, it is still not as effective as traditional face-to-face conversation. These articles include studies on the effects of technology on people’s health and family life, and both studies show the results of increased stress and decreased social connections.
The existence of technology in people’s lives has always been a controversial issue, with both negative and positive effects. In the article “Internet Paradox: Social Technology to Reduce Social Participation and Mental Health?” by Robert Kraut, Michael Patterson, Vicki Lundmark, Sara Kiesler, Tridas Mukopadhyay and William Scherlis, and Ronald W. Berkowsky’s “When You Can’t Leave Time”, it is obvious that the Internet and information and communication technologies have invaded people’s lives.
In addition, I also have some thoughts about technological progress. Obviously, we now live in a world without privacy. Through various technologies, the company can fully understand where you are, what you are talking about, and what you like. Even through a variety of data, they can accurately guess your needs.
In addition, Social media and mobile devices may lead to psychological and physical issues, such as eyestrain and difficulty focusing on important tasks. They may also contribute to more serious health conditions, such as depression. Also, the overuse of technology may have a more significant impact on developing children and teenagers.
